Incoloy 800H Details:What Is It Used For?

Incoloy 800H solves the problem that standard alloys often degrade rapidly when exposed to high heat and pressure, leading to frequent replacement. Stainless steel pipes and stainless steel pipe fittings made with it stabilise the entire system.

What is Incoloy 800H? High Carbon Power!

Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810, W.Nr. 1.4958) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy that is a modification of Incoloy 800. The letter after stainless steel grades “H” denotes controlled carbon content, with higher carbon content contributing to higher creep fracture strength. It maintains a stable austenitic structure at temperatures above 600∘C (1100∘F).

    Key Benefits of Incoloy 800H

Incoloy 800H maintains mechanical integrity and resists thermal softening for reliable performance at extreme temperatures.

Controlled carbon content improves creep strength and prevents slow permanent deformation over time. Important for continuous thermal operation.

High chromium content creates a stable oxide layer that prevents degradation in an oxidising environment.

Prevents carbon absorption and embrittlement in high temperature carbon-rich environments. Works well in furnaces.

Incoloy 800H is easy to weld and forms strong, reliable joints. Proper preheating and post-weld heat treatment are generally not required.

What Are The Uses of Incoloy 800H?

    • Furnace Components: radiant tubes, mufflers and retort equipment.
    • Petrochemical Industry: Cracking coils, heat exchangers and pyrolysis tubes.
    • Power Generation Industry: superheater and reheater tubes for power plants.
    • Industrial Heaters: Various heating elements and tubes for use in high temperature furnaces.
    • Chemical Processing: Pipes and fittings for handling high temperature corrosive chemicals.

    Products Made From Incoloy 800H

    • Seamless Steel Tubes: Ideal for high pressure, high temperature fluid transport.
    • Welded Tubing: For larger diameters or cost-effective applications.
    • Fittings: Elbows, tees, reducers and caps made from Incoloy 800H.
    • Flanges: Flanges provide strong, durable, high-temperature connections that are critical for bolting piping and equipment.
    • Sheet, Plate and Bar: For pipe jacking, structural components and speciality parts.

Procurement of Incoloy 800H Pipe and Fittings

A complete Material Test Report (MTR) is required. Verify compliance with ASTM B407 (pipe) or ASTM B564 (forgings).

Work with specialized suppliers of stainless steel pipe and fittings. They understand these alloy steels and can ensure proper fabrication and quality control, and are ISO 9001 and CE-PED certified.

Incoloy 800H can be welded, but specific procedures are critical. Make sure your supplier uses qualified methods.

Ensure that piping and fittings conform to specified dimensions. This includes ASME B36.10 (piping) or B16.9 (fittings).
