What Gives Incoloy 825 Pipe Corrosion Resistance?

The high nickel content combined with molybdenum and copper provides excellent corrosion resistance in reducing environments, while chromium ensures good corrosion resistance in oxidizing environments.

What is The Difference Between Incoloy 825 And Inconel 625?

Incoloy 825 pipe has a significantly higher iron content than inconel 625 pipe, while its nickel/molybdenum content is notably lower than that of inconel 625 pipe.Consequently,Incoloy 825 pipe offers greater cost-effectiveness for moderately corrosive applications (non-extreme corrosive environments).

    Incoloy 825 Key Mechanical Properties

    • Strengthening Method:
This alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment but exhibits significant strength improvement through cold working.
    • Low-Temperature Performance:
Maintains excellent impact strength and toughness in cryogenic environments without exhibiting brittle transition.
    • High-Temperature Limitations:
Prolonged exposure above 540°C (1000°F) causes microstructural changes (phase precipitation),significantly reducing toughness and elongation. Therefore,it is unsuitable for designs requiring consideration of creep fracture performance.
    • Forming and Welding:
Exhibits excellent formability and weldability. Its cold work hardening rate is slightly lower than that of standard austenitic stainless steels, but still requires higher-powered processing equipment.

    FAQs About UNS N08825 Pipe

Yes.It exhibits excellent weldability and is typically welded using ERNiFeCr-1 filler wire or ENiCrMo-3 (Inconel 625 welding material) for GTAW or GMAW.Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required.

Yes.Due to its molybdenum and chromium content,it exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride solutions such as seawater. Its PREN value typically ranges around 31.

Because it contains a high amount of nickel.Nickel is an expensive strategic metal, and its high nickel content is key to ensuring its resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
