Why is The Aluminum Content So Important?
- Synergistic Effect:
Aluminum interacts with high chromium content to form an extremely stable aluminum oxide/chromium oxide film on the pipe surface,thereby protecting itself. - Anti-Spalling Properties:
This film exhibits exceptional adhesion under extreme thermal cycling conditions (repeated heating and cooling),preventing thinning and damage to the metal surface caused by spalling.

The true advantage of UNS N06601 lies in its stability at elevated temperatures. As temperatures rise, its strength decreases at a relatively slow rate.
At 650°C (1200°F), tensile strength remains around 400 MPa.
Under long-term loading at temperatures above 815°C (1500°F), Alloy 601 exhibits superior creep resistance compared to Alloy 600, owing to its stable aluminum-chromium oxide protective layer.
