    Why is Cobalt Included in The Nickel Percentage?

    Cobalt and nickel are chemically similar and hard to separate during refining.Standards group them together because cobalt does not negatively affect the alloy’s corrosion resistance or strength.

    Can Monel 400 Suffer From Sensitization Like Stainless Steel?

    No.Monel 400 has a low carbon limit and lacks chromium. It does not form chromium carbides,making it immune to typical intergranular sensitization during welding.

    Does The Sulfur Content Affect Weldability?

    Yes.Sulfur is strictly limited to 0.024% maximum because excess sulfur forms low-melting-point compounds.These compounds can cause severe hot cracking during welding operations.

    No.Monel 400 lacks chromium,making it highly vulnerable to oxidizing environments like nitric acid,nitrous gases,and ferric chloride.It is best suited for reducing environments.

    It is virtually immune to chloride-induced SCC.However,it can experience stress cracking in the presence of mercury or moist hydrofluoric acid vapor if high internal tensile stresses are present.

    Use AWS ERNiCu-7 for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG),or ENiCu-7 covered electrodes for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick).
