Sherritt International, a manufacturer of nickel and cobalt, has disclosed the 4th quarter and whole year (by the end of 31st Dec, 2020) production volumes.
In its announcement, it shows that a joint venture in the city of Moa, Cuba, produced 31,506 tons of 100-base nickel in 2020, which is slightly less than the target of 32,000-33,000 ton made by previous year.
The production is negatively impacted by: the disruption caused by rail service in the first quarter; reduction of contractors and extension of breakdown time caused by COVID-19 in third quarter; and unplanned maintenance of autoclaved tanks in the fourth quarter.
For 100-base cobalt base production, the volume reaches 3,370 tons, which completes the target of 3,300 to 3,400 tons made by previous year.
In 2020, it is estimated that the production of finished nickel will reach 32,000 to 34,000 tons (100 nickel-base) and production of finished cobalt will reach 3,300 to 3,600 tons (100 cobalt-base).
For one pound of finished nickel, MOA joint venture’s net direct cash cost is expected to be between $4.25 and $4.75 in 2021.
