You must have heard of stainless steel pipe supplier said he can provide 12% nickel contained stainless steel pipe.

So what exactly a 12% nickel contained stainless steel pipe is?

00Cr17Ni14Mo2 pipes

Stainless steel pipes with 12% nickel content are only found in the GB / T14976-2002 standard. The scientific name is 00Cr17Ni14Mo2, AKA 316L stainless steel pipe.

The stainless steel pipe with 10% nickel content is called 0Cr17Ni12Mo2 in the old GB / T14976-2002 standard. AKA 316 stainless steel tube.

In the new GB / T14976-2012, 12% nickel is no longer present in 316 or 316L. Both have become the minimum 10% nickel content, scientific names: 06Cr7Ni12Mo2 and 022Cr17Ni12Mo2, which are in line with American standards.

In summary, we know that stainless steel seamless pipes with 12% nickel content (00Cr17Ni14Mo2) are more expensive than stainless steel seamless pipes with 10% nickel content (0Cr17Ni12Mo2 or 022Cr17Ni12Mo2). Of course, it is much more expensive than 304 / 304L series stainless steel pipes.

Because the 316L series seamless stainless steel pipe has better corrosion resistance, especially under the environment of strong acid and alkali, the service life of the pipe is much longer than the 304 series stainless steel pipe with 8% nickel contained.
