What is the difference between N06625 Gr. 1 and Gr. 2
ASTM B444 N06625 (Inconel 625) seamless tubes has 2 grades: Grade 1 and Grade 2. This classification is fundamentally based on heat treatment conditions and applicable temperature ranges, with consistent chemical composition ranges. Differences primarily lie in heat treatment specifications, mechanical properties, allowable stresses, and suitable operating conditions.
| Comparison Dimension | N06625 Gr.1 | N06625 Gr.2 | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat Treatment Condition | Annealed | Solution Annealed | Different heat treatment practice |
| Chemical Composition (wt%) | Ni≥58.0, Cr20.0–23.0, Mo8.0–10.0, Nb+Ta3.15–4.15 | Same as Gr.1 | No chemical difference between grades |
| Mechanical Properties (RT) | σb≥827 MPa, σ0.2≥414 MPa, δ≥30% | σb≥965 MPa, σ0.2≥552 MPa, δ≥20% | Gr.2 provides higher strength |
| Allowable Stress | 30000 psi (207 MPa) | 25000 psi (172 MPa) | Design value difference |
| Service Temperature | ≤593 °C (1100 °F) | >593 °C (1100 °F) | Gr.2 preferred for high-temperature service |
| Microstructure Stability | Higher room-temperature strength | Better high-temperature stability | Depends on operating conditions |
| Typical Applications | Chemical piping, heat exchangers | Furnace tubes, hot pressure piping | Selection by temperature and stress |
| Cost & Availability | Standard supply | Higher cost, longer lead time | Specify grade clearly in PO |
