Characteristics And Applications Of Main Types Of Stainless Steel

The characteristics and applications of common stainless steel are introduced below:

[304] As a widely used steel, it has good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, low temperature strength and mechanical properties, good hot workability such as stamping, bending, no heat treatment and hardening, no magnetism, and a use temperature of 193 degrees To plus 800 degrees.

[304L] As a low-carbon 304 steel, under normal conditions, the corrosion resistance is similar to 304, but after welding and stress relief, it has good resistance to intergranular corrosion and can be maintained without heat treatment. Good corrosion resistance, generally used at 400 degrees.

[Applications] Petrochemical industry, building materials.


[321] Ti element is added to 304 steel to prevent intergranular corrosion. It is suitable for positive 430 to 900 degrees and non-magnetic.

[Applications] Automobile exhaust, heat exchangers, containers and other products that are not heat treated after welding are not suitable for making food processing equipment due to the addition of Ti element.


[316] Low carbon, with the addition of MO element, so its corrosion resistance and atmospheric corrosion resistance and high temperature strength performance are particularly good, can be used under harsh conditions, suitable for use below 900 degrees, non-magnetic.

[Applications] Equipment used in seawater, (such as duplex stainless steel pipes and duplex fittings) chemical, dye, paper, acetic acid, fertilizer and other production equipment, food industry and coastal facilities, products with special requirements for anti-intergranular corrosion


[309S / 310S] These two materials have a relatively high content of nickel and chromium. At the same time, the content of Si is increased to make it resistant to high temperatures and corrosion. Among them, 309S can withstand repeated heating below 980, and 310S can reach a temperature of 1200 degrees Continuous use temperature can be 1150 degrees, non-magnetic.

[Applications] Suitable for high-temperature electric furnace equipment, drying equipment and other key parts, furnace materials, aviation, petrochemical, power, etc.


[200 series] Similar to 304, cheap and economical.

[Applications] Food processing utensils, kitchen equipment, food processing equipment, filters, milk jugs, durable consumer goods, washing machine parts, water heaters, steel furniture, architectural decoration, decoration. In terms of fatigue resistance, 201 has greater hardness and toughness is not as good as 304, or 304 has better fatigue resistance.
