What Type of Packaging is Used For Stainless Steel Plates & Sheets?

  • For cold-rolled sheets,we apply a PE/laser protective film to the smooth surface.Inside, the stacked sheets are wrapped in waterproof kraft paper and covered with a layer of plastic film to prevent moisture damage. The bundled sheets are enclosed in a rigid metal cover or a heavy-duty corrugated cardboard frame to absorb impact. The entire package is secured with 4 to 6 high-strength steel straps to prevent shifting.
  • For hot-rolled plates, the heavy coils are sturdy and durable and resistant to surface scratches;therefore, the focus of packaging is on structural stability and sealing.Typically,no surface paper or film is applied, and the coils are stacked directly on top of one another for transport. When necessary,extra-heavy-duty steel straps are used to secure the load tightly to accommodate high-tonnage shipments.Additionally, steel or plastic corner protectors are placed beneath the straps to prevent the straps from breaking or scratching the edges of the plates.

Standard Shipping & Support Systems

  • Wooden Pallets / Skids:
Hardwood pallets are built to support the specific length and width of the sheets. For international shipping, all wood must undergo heat treatment and carry an ISPM 15 Fumigation Stamp to clear customs.
  • Steel Frames / Pallets:
For heavy plate stacks or extra-large dimensions,heavy-duty welded steel skids are used. These completely eliminate fumigation delays and offer superior weight capacity.
  • Desiccant Packets (Silica Gel):
Placed inside the waterproof wrapping of sheet bundles to absorb trapped air moisture and prevent water spots or clouding during ocean freight.

Manufacturing Methods for Stainless Steel Plates & Sheets

Hot Rolling Method

Hot rolling is the starting point for all stainless steel sheets and the final manufacturing method for industrial-grade thick plates. Stainless steel slabs are heated to a temperature above the recrystallization point and repeatedly rolled between high-pressure rollers in a heavy-duty rolling mill. This process offers high output and efficiency. The finished product has a dull gray surface that is relatively rough and often covered with scale.

Cold Rolling Method

Cold rolling is used to produce thin stainless steel sheets (<6 mm) with high dimensional accuracy and smooth surfaces.
Using hot-rolled stainless steel sheets as raw material, the sheets are further rolled and thinned at room temperature using a cold rolling mill.
The finished products feature precise thickness, smooth and dense surfaces, and high strength.

Cladding / Composite Method

Composite clad plates consist of a base layer of ordinary carbon steel or low-alloy steel, with a thin layer of stainless steel clad to one or both sides. The two metals are bonded together through hot-rolled cladding or explosive welding. The finished product combines the corrosion resistance of stainless steel with the high strength and high thermal conductivity of carbon steel, while significantly reducing the overall material cost.

Mechanical Patterning / Forming

Tread/Diamond Rolling:In the final stage of hot rolling, specially designed rollers with a raised and recessed pattern are used to directly imprint a raised pattern onto the surface of the steel plate.
Embossing:Cold-rolled sheet metal is passed through rollers engraved with patterns to create various raised and recessed three-dimensional textures on its surface. This not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also improves the sheet’s bending strength.

Surface Modification Methods

These methods use cold-rolled stainless steel sheets as the base material and employ physical or chemical processes to create decorative sheets with entirely different physical properties.
  • Polishing/Satin Finishing (Mechanical Polishing):
Mechanical friction using sanding belts or abrasives of varying grits is used to produce #4 brushed panels or 8K mirror-polished panels.
  • Chemical Coloring/Vacuum Deposition (PVD):
Through vacuum ion plating (PVD) or chemical reactions,an extremely thin yet durable oxide film is formed on the stainless steel surface to produce colored stainless steel sheets in shades such as gold, black, and rose gold.
  • Chemical Etching:
By masking parts of the surface with corrosion-resistant photosensitive ink and immersing the material in acid, the unmasked areas are etched to create patterns of varying depths. This method is commonly used for elevator cabs and high-end building curtain walls.

Forming & Bending:
CNC Press Brake Bending up to custom angles and lengths.
Surface Refinement:
Custom mechanical polishing to achieve #4 Brushed,Hairline,or #8 Mirror finishes, applied with laser-protective PE film.
Edge Processing:
Automated deburring, edge slitting, and beveling for welding preparation.

Sim,every single shipment is accompanied by an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Report ensuring 100% heat traceability from the furnace melt.

Cold-Rolled Sheets (<6mm):
Typically maintain an extremely tight tolerance range between ± 0.05 mm and ± 0.15 mm depending on the gauge.
Hot-Rolled Heavy Plates (≥6mm):
Follow a wider tolerance structure (ranging from ± 0.25 mm to over ± 1.0 mm) to account for thermal contraction as the thick metal cools down.
