Incoloy 800H Plate
Core Material Characteristics
- High-Temperature Strength:
It maintains stable, robust tensile and structural properties during long-term exposure to temperatures ranging from 1100°F (593°C) to 1800°F (982°C). - Creep and Rupture Resistance:
Unlike base Alloy 800,the 800H variant is solution heat-treated at a minimum of 2100°F (1150°C) to achieve a coarse grain size. This structural modification prevents metal deformation under sustained heavy stress. - Résistance à la corrosion :
The high chromium and nickel content prevents oxidation, sulfidation, and carburization in extreme combustion environments, and eliminates the risk of chloride stress-corrosion cracking.

Key Metallurgy Notes
- Higher Carbon:
This specific range provides the alloy with significantly higher high-temperature tensile and creep-rupture strength than standard Alloy 800. - Controlled Al + Ti:
Combined with the solution annealing process, these elements ensure a stable, coarse grain structure (ASTM size 5 or coarser) optimized for long-term service above 1100°F (593°C).

Physical Property Anchors
- Density:
0.287 lb/in³ (7.94 g/cm³) - Melting Range:
2475°F – 2525°F (1357°C – 1385°C) - Modulus of Elasticity (Tension):
28.5 x 10⁶ psi (196.5 GPa) at room temperature.
High-Temperature & Creep Properties
The primary reason for selecting Incoloy 800H over standard grades is its ability to retain design strength at elevated operating conditions. Its solution-annealing heat treatment creates a coarse grain structure, which prevents grain boundary sliding at temperatures exceeding 1100°F (593°C).
- Design Stress Allowables:
Governed by ASME Section VIII,it is approved for code construction up to 1650°F (899°C). - 10,000-Hour Rupture Strength:
At a typical service temperature of 1400°F (760°C),the plate can withstand a continuous stress of approximately 7,500 psi (52 MPa) for 10,000 hours without failure. - 100,000-Hour Creep Limit:
For a minimum creep rate of 0.01% per 1,000 hours at 1200°F (649°C),the allowable stress is roughly 15,000 psi (103 MPa).
Our Advantages in Manufacturing Incoloy 800H Plate
Grain-Size Control & Heat Treatment
Kaysuns utilize precise, automated vertical continuous annealing furnaces running at a minimum of 2100°F (1150°C).
This rigorous thermal process guarantees a uniform ASTM grain size of 5 or coarser across the entire plate.
Superior grain structure stability eliminates grain-boundary sliding, maximizing the alloy’s long-term creep-rupture life under high-temperature stress.
VIM + VAR Melting Technology
Our plates originate from premium ingots processed through Vacuum Induction Melting followed by Vacuum Arc Remelting.
This advanced metallurgy allows us to isolate trace elements, tightly managing carbon and Al+Ti to the exact center of the ASTM B409 specification window.
Eliminating non-metallic impurities yields exceptional material cleanliness, improving weldability and lowering structural failure risks in critical processing zones.
Heavy Plate Rolling & Flatness
Our heavy-duty hot rolling mills deliver uniform reduction ratios, ensuring an isotropic microstructure from the plate surface to its core.
Advanced automated gauge control achieves thickness tolerances far tighter than standard ASTM B409 requirements.
Specialized hot-leveling systems minimize residual internal stress, delivering exceptionally flat plates that reduce fabrication, cutting, and welding preparation times for our clients.
NDT & Dual-Certification Capabilities
Every manufactured plate undergoes comprehensive internal testing, including Class A ultrasonic testing per ASTM A578,ensuring complete freedom from internal laminations or voids.
Our production parameters allow us to deliver plates multi-certified as Incoloy 800 / 800H / 800HT,offering maximum inventory and engineering flexibility.
We provide complete EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 material test reports capturing exact melt chemistry, grain size verification, and high-temperature tensile test results.
FAQs About Incoloy 800H Plate
Incoloy 800 is the base alloy used mainly for corrosion and heat resistance up to 1100°F (593°C),does not require a specific grain size.
Incoloy 800H has a higher carbon content and undergoes solution annealing at high temperatures, resulting in coarse grain structure. It exhibits excellent creep rupture strength at temperatures above 1100°F.
Incoloy 800HT has stricter limits on aluminum and titanium content and a higher minimum heat treatment temperature, providing maximum creep resistance in extreme-temperature applications.
The 19-23% Chromium content forms a protective, tightly adherent chromium oxide scale that prevents continuous metal wastage.
The 30-35% Nickel content protects the alloy from absorbing carbon in reducing or hydrocarbon-rich furnace environments, preventing embrittlement.
Its high nickel content makes it virtually immune to chloride-induced SCC,a common failure point for standard 300-series stainless steels.
Oui,Incoloy 800H has excellent weldability using standard processes like GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, and SMAW.
- For applications operating below 1430°F (775°C),Inconel Filler Metal 82 (ERNiCr-3) or Inconel Welding Electrode 182 (ENiCrFe-3) are typically used.
- For applications operating above 1430°F (775°C),matching-strength fillers like Inconel Filler Metal 617 (ERNiCrCoMo-1) or Alloy 21-33Nb are highly recommended to ensure the weld metal matches the high creep-rupture strength of the 800H base plate.
