    • Solid-Solution Strengthening:
      Hastelloy X does not rely on age-hardening or phase precipitation (like Gamma Prime in other superalloys) to gain strength.The large atomic radii of Molybdenum and Tungsten distort the Nickel matrix,structurally locking it against high-stress deformation up to 2200°F (1200°C).
    • Exceptional Carburization & Nitriding Resistance:
      The high Chromium and Nickel content prevents carbon and nitrogen atoms from diffusing into the plate surface in furnace environments.This blocks internal structural embrittlement.
    • Post-Exposure Ductility:
      After being exposed to critical soaking zones of 1200°F to 1600°F (650°C to 870°C) for over 16,000 continuous hours,the plate maintains excellent residual toughness and ductility.

    Critical Processing Advice

    • Forming & Workability:
      Thanks to the high nickel percentage,the plate boasts exceptional cold-working capabilities.However,it work-hardens rapidly compared to carbon steels,requiring high-powered equipment.
    • Welding Parameters:
      The chemical mix yields excellent weldability with a low susceptibility to hot cracking.It can be welded via TIG,MIG,or resistance welding methods using matching ERNiCrMo-2 filler metal.

    High-Temperature Tensile Properties

    As a solid-solution strengthened superalloy,Hastelloy X is explicitly engineered to minimize thermal softening.The following data shows how its mechanical strength evolves under extreme heat:

    • At 1200℉(650℃):
      Yield Strength remains high at approximately 260 MPa,with an Ultimate Tensile Strength of 540 MPa.
    • At 1600℉(870℃):
      Yield Strength holds at around 180 MPa,and UTS is 255 MPa.
    • At 2000℉(1095℃):
      Even near its melting point,the plate retains a measurable UTS of about 60 MPa,resisting sudden catastrophic failure.

    Creep and Stress-Rupture Behavior

    In long-term engineering applications like gas turbines,creep (gradual deformation under constant thermal stress) is the primary structural threat.Hastelloy X plates demonstrate exceptional creep-rupture strength:

    • 1500℉(815℃):A constant stress of 66 MPa is required to cause structural rupture at exactly 1,000 hours.
    • 1800℉(980℃):The alloy can withstand a stress of 15 MPa for 1,000 hours before failure occurs.

    • Excellent Thermal Fatigue Resistance:
      The alloy withstands repeated,rapid heating and cooling cycles without thermal cracking or warping.This makes it ideal for gas turbine combustor liners.

      Unlike many cobalt- or iron-base superalloys that become extremely brittle after prolonged heating,Hastelloy X retains significant impact toughness and room-temperature ductility even after 10,000+ hours of service in the 1200℉ to 1600℉ range.

    Hastelloy X is a high-temperature superalloy designed to resist extreme thermal oxidation,carburization,and thermal shock in gas turbines and furnaces.

    Hastelloy C276 is a corrosion-resistant alloy designed primarily to withstand aggressive aqueous chemicals,wet chlorine gas,acids,and pitting at low to moderate temperatures.

    In most standard applications,no PWHT is required.Welded joints using matching filler metals (like ERNiCrMo-2) retain excellent ductility and high tensile strength in the as-welded condition.However,for severe,high-stress creep applications,a full solution annealing treatment (2150°F to 2175°F followed by a rapid quench) can be performed to optimize microstructural uniformity.
    Standard stainless steels suffer from rapid thermal softening,heavy scale flaking,and severe embrittlement due to carburization or nitriding under furnace conditions.Hastelloy X plates form a highly adherent,protective chromium-rich oxide scale that blocks carbon/nitrogen absorption and maintains structural integrity through thousands of hours of thermal cycling.
